about me
Intro
Hello frans! I'm Biibs, the worker behind Biibs the Bee, a cosy corner where I share my quirky art while raising awareness about ADHD and neurodiversity. Through my creations, I hope to make these topics more relatable and approachable in a creative way.
Where am I from?
Singapore.
What is my ADHD story?
- I was diagnosed with ADHD-PI (primarily inattentive) at 32 by a private psychologist.
- Prior to my diagnosis, I always thought I was a nervous, high-strung person.
- Did not consider ADHD until I was shown a CNA video about 3 Singaporean women who got diagnosed late with ADHD and I related to many of their experiences.
- I first sought help with a therapist on attention/focus issues. Went for the assessment after many months of deliberation. It took me almost another year after to get medication as stimulants are highly controlled in Singapore
- A lot of my ADHD struggles are internal and affects myself mostly (perhaps part of being more on the Inattentive side and a woman masking). ADHD makes sense in hindsight - it explains a lot of the troubles I faced as child, a teen and even as an adult.
Why did I create Biibs the Bee?
- I hope to connect and relate with others on similar journeys through art! I am still unpacking and navigating life with this condition. ADHD is complex and often misunderstood, especially in women and more so in an Asian society where mental health is not talked about enough and well understood.
- TACTILE THINGS <3. My ADHD diagnosis gave me that push to be more accepting of my self and embracing parts of me that I've hidden away such as my creative energy. Making things allows me to engage my mind and hands, something I don't typically find in a deskbound role!
